That's me tooting my own horn. I was sharing a story with a coworker this morning and came up with the best one liner ever. I'm blogging today because I want to remember that I can be funny sometimes lol.
So, meeting planning is a big part of my job. Usually it's fun. Sometimes I wonder if people are crazy. Yesterday was one of those times. One of the girls on my team has asked for my help. She wanted tables, chairs, linens and balloons for an event that will have about 60 people at it. She only has $100 in her budget for the above listed items.
What I'm thinking in my head:
How's that crack pipe of yours? Still warm I see.
(tell me that didn't make you laugh?!)
There is no way in hell I can make that happen. I helped do an event last month and the balloons alone cost $400....and it's not like we filled the room with them. I explained this to said co worker and we (as in I) will figure it out. I'm sure it will all be fine. But I really do wonder what the heck people are thinking sometimes. Too funny.

Don't get used to this
But I'm actually going to blog again today. It's just a quick little blurb.
I found this on Pinterest (have I mentioned how much I love this site? I feel like I may have......just once or twice before in the past maybe? HA) last night and I immediately thought to myself 1,000 TIMES YES! This is exactly how I feel! I love love love this!!!!
What a GREAT saying!! Mantra? I'm not really sure what the hell to call it but I love it. LOVE!

A little bit of this, a little bit of that
Oh my, where does the time go?! I've been officially called a slacker (thanks *coughPaulacough*) for not posting lately on my blog. What can I say because she's totally right! I send myself little emails, remind myself of things I need to / want to post. I have been meaning to post. I have great intentions, I really do, I just have to find the time to actually get on here and do it! So here I am.......getting on here and doing what I mean to do!
Things have been busy, as usual, around here. There is always something going on. But whose life isn't that way, right?? I have a feeling this might be a bit of a long one so you might want to grab a snack or a refreshment of some kind. Watch out now. Ha!
I'll start with the kiddos. That's always the easiest place to start. Good and bad, they keep me on my toes and they keep me laughing, that's for sure.
Aidan finished up basketball a few weeks ago. I don't know if he'll play next year but he had fun this year. I'm just not too sure it's his sport. Maybe he'll want to give it a shot next year and he'll be more into it. I think this year he was just more into the socializing aspect lol. Then again, he was only 6 yrs old. But I have to tell you, he absolutely made me laugh. There were times that he quite literally skipped up the court. Oh yes, I said skipped. I was slapping my hand against my forehead. Love that boy. He's playing baseball this spring and he can't wait for that. I hope he's ready. Last year it was Tee ball, this year will be real pitching. Should be interesting.
He got his report card on Friday and I am SO proud of him! He has improved so much on his reading and math skills. He's been getting extra help at school in these areas and we've been working with him at home as well. The reading has been especially hard for ME to grasp and I know it's completely my fault. Reading is something I definitely take for granted. My Mom was a big reader and she passed it on to me. I started reading at a young age and I've been going strong ever since. It's nothing for me to read a book in a weekend (um, or it used to be nothing when I had more time.....sometimes I can still do it on a camping weekend). I've always had a huge love for books. John is the exact opposite. He's always had a hard time reading. He had trouble in school and he had to get extra help, inside and out of school. So this one was tough and a learning curve for me as well. Regardless, it's working. His teacher called me at home on a Friday last month to let me know personally how much improvement she has seen in Aidan and just to let us know that she really appreciates us taking the time to do the extra work with him. I was so proud of him when she called!! It's so nice to get such a great call about your child!! I will also admit I was a bit confused with the praise because I'd like to think that ANY parent would do what we are doing to help our own child but, in speaking with a few of my other Mom friends, I realize that may not be the case. A couple are teachers and they let me know that some parents think it should fall solely on the teacher to teach the child and that the parent isn't responsible. I'll just say that I just can't imagine. I will do whatever it takes to help my child and I'll leave it at that.
Ryan is the funniest as of late. Well, aside from this past weekend...we had a tough one. He's had a fever off and since Wednesday night. No other symptoms. Thursday Ryan's class had a "Teddy Bear Picnic" and he was sobbing hysterically at the thought of missing it. He only had a slight temp so I told my father in law to give him meds and I let him go to school. He was totally fine. No calls from the nurse, no problems at all. Thurs night he woke up in the middle of the night with a higher fever so I kept him home from school on Friday. Fri he slept til 8:45a and he was totally fever free all day so we kept a playdate with friends we had scheduled at the playground. Friday night he woke up at 2a crying and telling me his head hurt really bad. Temp of 104.7. Into the tub he went so I could try and get it down. He slept until 1:30p on Saturday!! Lather, rinse and repeat Sat (or Sun technically) at 3am. Good times. During the day the fever went down but at night it would shoot back up again. Last night he didn't wake up at all and this morning no temp so hopefully he's passed it. Poor little bub. Another milestone has passed. He has learned to tie his own shoes. He refused to do it for so long and then, out of nowhere, he's doing it. It's been weeks now but, as I mentioned, I'm a bit behind on the updates. My bad.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I picked him up at school on a Friday afternoon as per usual. We're walking back to the car and we walk past two Moms chatting that have two little girls with them. One of them looks at Ryan and waves. Well, my sweet little innocent boy turns to her and says "Goodbye Beautiful!" OMG. "I said Ryan! What did you just say?" He says "I said "Goodbye beautiful!" I said "You are too young to be calling girls beautiful." He shoots back, "But Mom, she IS beautiful!" with this HUGE grin on his face. Oh Lord help me now. I can't help but smile though because the look on his face as he says it.....devil may care. He's going to be a lady killer.
Erynn is, as always, my little Diva. Running the house, ruling over her "brudders" and getting her way. She's currently obsessed with her far-too-many-pairs-of-flip-flops and can't wait to wear them. Damn this New England weather. 70-80 degrees last week and back to 40 degrees this week. Try explaining to a headstrong 4 yr old why she can't wear flips after she's been wearing them already. Ugh. She's fully obsessed with dresses as well and watch out if they aren't as "twirly" as she likes! All she wants to wear are her dresses and her flips. She is a totally girly girl and I have no idea where she could possibly have gotten that from. *wink* Yes folks, she is 100% her Mommy's little girl. I love it!!! Every weekend when she wakes up she comes running into my bedroom and climbs up into bed for a snuggle. She climbs in, wraps her little arms around me and says "Good Morning Mumma, get up, it's good morning time!" Melts my heart. I hope it stays this way forever. No, no, I'm not that naive. I know it won't but I'm enjoying every moment while it lasts. I'll blog about it to remember for the days ahead when I know she'll tell me she hates me and I'll want to remember she did want to cuddle her Mama at some point!
We had a slight incident at school last week. Seems she stole buttons from her class. Yes, buttons. They must have been for a project or something. I'm hearing this third hand at this point. It came from the teacher to my father in law, to John, to me. Erynn took a handful of buttons and put them in her backpack. When she got caught she blamed it on a little boy in class that has a crush on her. (even when stealing she's not stupid right?!) When questioned again she finally admitted she took them. At this point, I'm horrified. Yes, I know she's not the first kid to get caught taking something but STILL. When I questioned her after I got home from work she admitted she took them. When I asked her why she said she thought they were money. Immediately I flash forward 10 years and see my daughter going to juvie for robbing a bank. I wipe that from my memory and take a deep breath. I ask her WHY she would want to take money from her class. She says she just wanted it for her piggy bank. Simple as that. I told her she can NEVER take anything from anyone and if she wants money for her piggy bank she just has to ask Mommy or Daddy. She said okay and she'd never do it again. I'm praying this is normal behaviour and I'm not raising a little felon. Pray for me.
What else, what else. John is still working full time for ISA. He's got a slot at the DTA here in Boston and we started car pooling a few weeks ago. It's working out really well. He ends up going in a bit early for work because of my hours but he doesn't mind at all and it's saving us mucho dinero in gas money so yay! He got a call two weeks ago from the VP of the company letting him know that he'd be up for a promotion soon. Seems they'd like to make him a Sergeant and they'd like to extend his hours as well. I'm really proud of him. Truth be told I'm a bit jaded and I do tend to doubt until it actually comes through but that is just because of how often he got screwed over by the Sheriff's Dept. They always made promises they never followed through on. I'm trying to remember that things like that don't happen normally. The extended hours thing would be great because I start back to my (4) 10 hour work days today so he is going into work two hours early at this point. He doesn't mind, he's a saint. Oh and the OT wouldn't be a bad thing either!
ALSO - the Abington PD called and asked him to update his resume and bring it in. They want him to reapply for the Auxiliary force. YAY! This will not only get him details in Abington, it will also allow him the opportunity to get a foot onto the town police force should an opening ever occur in the future. This is great news as well. I'll be updating his resume today or tomorrow so he can print it out and drop it off. Things are going really well for him and I'm so happy. He really deserves it!!
Work for me is great as well. Still loving what I'm doing. The team, my bosses, all of it. There are some days that are crazier than others but show me someone who doesn't have days like that lol. Still no word on my role, the promotion, the opening or what will happen. I'm just going to keep on doing what I'm doing until they tell me to stop. I know Charlene is happy and that is all that matters for now. I'm sure they'll figure it out eventually. I have a job that I like and I'm happy with that.
Outside of work I've been keeping busy. I've done two consignment sales in the past 3 weeks. Lisa talked me into them and I'm glad I did. I sold 96% of my inventory and made some pretty decent money. Some paid bills and some will pay for our first camping weekend. YES I said camping! Okay, okay, GLAMPING. Yes folks, glamping season is almost here! YAY!! We kick off Mother's Day weekend at Normandy Farms and we can't wait. I'm going to have to get into the camper soon and get it all opened up after the "winter" to get it ready for this season. We've booked just about one trip a month from May - Oct save for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. We're waiting for Normandy to open up weekends for those dates, right now it's just weeks. Call me crazy but we're already booked for 2013 LOL. We actually booked a WEEK for July 2013. John asked if I'd ever do a week. Why the heck not. It's the only vacationing we do, the kids love it, so why not. I'll give it a shot.
I think that's about it for now. I'd say that's more than enough. I've said it before, I'm sure I'll say it again but I'll try and be better about the blogging. Some days I feel like I have a ton to say, sometimes I feel like not so much. I guess a few words now and then would be better than going a month with nothing, right? Until next time!
