Last night at dinner, Aidan thought he'd be all slick and throw me a challenge.
"MOM! I challenge you to a full day with NO electronics! Do you think you could do it?!"
I say hell yes, Aidan, bring it on. I really could. I could pack up my phone, put away my iPad, turn off the computer, the tv, the iPod, all of it. It really wouldn't be an issue for me at all. At first Erynn starts squealing and saying nononononono! I laugh at her. Really girl? It's only 24 hours. Give me a break. I'm serious. 24 hours with no electronics is NOT that big of a deal. Get outside. Pick up a book. It would really be a non-issue for me at all. However, I do love that he threw in my face "Mom, that means NO PICTURES of us for a whole day!" Love that boy - yes, he tossed out that I take too many pictures. Well, he'll appreciate it one day, trust and believe.
So, Erynn turns it around and says "Okay I accept your challenge." Now it's Aidan, Erynn and myself that are all for it. Then we look down the other end of the table. Ryan and John are standing firmly against it. FIRM. Nope. They will not give in. Heads shaking back and forth with a vengeance. Ryan looks like we've asked him to cut off his right arm. John actually looks the same. God forbid either one of them go without tv or an iPad. John is on his phone 24/7. You all joke and think I'm bad? I got off of FB for 3 wks with no issue at all. I was shooting for a month but gave in early because it was my friends birthday and her hubby was giving me a hard time. So I did give in early. But I VERY happily offered to go off and start again for a full month but was met with VERY loud arguments that I should not. So I haven't. But I have definitely cut back my time on FB. And I'm enjoying it. I do not need electronics to get through my day. I really want to do this little experiment. Why the hell not? Is it THAT big of a deal to go without for a day? Have an "old fashioned" day as Aidan said last night? (which cracked me right up because think about it. How far back do you really need to go? LOL)
So, I ask. Could YOU do it? Could you put down that phone, computer, iPad/Pod/whatever. Could you back away from all of it for an entire day? What think? Give it a shot and get back to me! I'll be blogging about our day when I make it happen........because it's going to happen!

Kiddo update!
Aidan has finally found his niche in the sports world! He started Fall Soccer this year and he absolutely LOVES it. Check out that smile!
Here he is with his team on picture day. The best part is he is GOOD at it so it's such an ego boost for him. He loves the sport, he's good at it and he fits right in. I think this is definitely going to be it for him. He had practice two nights a week and then practice and a game every Saturday. That's a lot of sports time but so worth it to see the smile on his face. After trying Baseball and Basketball and not wanting to keep doing them I'm so glad he found something he loves. Now he's just deciding if he wants to do Spring and Fall.......he's going to have to get on that soon because try outs are next week!

And then this happened. Aidan fell on the playground at school and he sprained his knee. So that put him out of soccer for three weeks. We're hoping he'll be able to play tomorrow and then for the last game on Saturday. Fingers crossed! Now, before you even say it. There is NO bad knee juju in this house......so don't even go there! It didn't happen at home, you hear me! It happened on the playground....could have happened to anyone! LOL

Erynn started Fall Soccer as well and LOVED it. Like her big brother, she was really good at it too. She's definitely going to play next year but hasn't decided about Spring Soccer yet. The urgency isn't there for her as she won't have to try out if she does decide to play. Tryouts are only for the older kids. She is playing Basketball like Ryan. I'm officially the Mom whose life revolves around her kids and their sports. How did this happen?? ;-)
In school all three kids are doing great. They got their first semester mid-term reports and we're really happy with all three!! I'm still at the school every Friday copying for Aidan AND Ryan's teachers. What a treat that is.....I'm there for at least 2 hours and the LEAST amount of paper I've gone through so far is 7 reams. I feel like I need to go to confession after as I'm single handedly killing forests all on my own now! But, the teachers tell me every week how much they appreciate it and seeing the boys' faces light up when I walk into the room makes it all worth it. They love having me in there so, as long as they need me (and as long as my job permits me to keep the compressed work week!) I'll be there.

Ryan started Football in August and let me just tell you what a TIMESUCK that is! OMG!! Practice 4-5 nights a week and then the games are on top of that. Holy hell what a commitment. JC I wasn't even ready for it. In the beginning it wasn't so bad b/c it was so close to my surgery that I was working from home. But once I went back into Boston I missed a lot of the practices. They started at 4:30p and most days I don't even leave the office until after 5p. Then add the commute and forget it. John had to bring him but that wasn't hard b/c John works nights AND he ended up having to be a coach so he had to be there anyway. So, Football. Ryan LOVED it!!! He played his last game this past weekend and I'm sure he'll be back next year. This past game was amazing. We crushed the other team - 22-0 AND Ryan scored his very first touchdown. What a GREAT ending to an amazing season. My kid is a baller. I love it. He chose Gronk's number and he should get to keep it his entire career. Now it's Fall/Winter and Ryan will start Basketball.

Orrrr, Erynn will be the first girl on the boys soccer team. This is how we do in the Foley house. One night when making dinner we decided to put on Ryan's football shirts. She got in FULL GEAR and suited up. I was just excited that my 8 year old's shirt fit on my 37 year old body! LMAO!!!

Broken Hearts
We had to say goodbye to Dakota last night. The kids were too young to remember their grandmothers passing so this is the toughest thing our little family of five has ever been through.
She was going to the vet yesterday to have a cyst on her eye looked at. Jan brought her to my Father in Law's house because she wanted to prep us first. He came over and told us we needed to go to his house. I knew in an instant what was happening. John had no idea. When we got there I said to Jan, it's bad isn't it? She just said I'm so sorry. I said is it Cancer? She said yes. Dakota has cancer throughout her spleen and it's infested her lungs as well. Her platelet counts are supposed to be between 40,000 - 50,000. Hers are at 7,000. If she bumps into something the wrong way, if she gets bumped the wrong way, she could literally bleed out in your house. She'll bleed from her ears, eyes, nose, mouth and you won't be able to help her or stop it. I started crying. All I could think about were the kids. They have never known life without Dakota. We got her when I was pregnant with Aidan - she would have been 10 years old just two weeks from now.
We brought her home and told the kids that she was very, very sick. That she was going to live in Heaven with Grandma and Meme. They started crying. I started crying. John started crying. They asked if they could take a picture with her, each of them, to keep in their bedrooms. I said of course they could. Then the questions started. Erynn wanted to know if we could visit her in Heaven. Aidan was saying he wished we could just have four more days - just one more camping trip with her so we could take her to the dog park again. But he didn't want her to be in pain. Ryan said this was the saddest day of his life and would it be okay to talk about it at circle time in school the next day. My poor babies were crying for hours. They are so sad and I felt so helpless because all I could do was hold them - I couldn't fix their hurt. I've never felt so helpless in my life. I just said Mommy is so sorry, this is one hurt I can't fix for you.
I know we did the right thing. John went with Jan to the hospital and he said Dakota got really bad on the drive there. Her breathing was labored, she was shaking and crying. I know she was in pain and we never would have wanted her to suffer. We wouldn't have wanted the kids to see her like that. But my heart breaks for my kids and the pain they are feeling. I wish I could make it all better for them.
The kids want to bury her in the front yard. Right by the three trees we planted for them when we built the house. Aidan said it has to be by those trees so she will always be near them. :::tears::: for my sweet child.
RIP Dakota. We love you and will never forget you.

Check ups and Kid-isms
There are days where I'd REALLY like to find that pause button. Time just goes by so quickly. I wish I could make it stop for just a year or two. I miss the rocking to sleep. I miss the kids falling asleep in the crook of my arm. I miss naptime, but not for the quiet time, I just miss how little they used to be. It's gone - all gone. They are so big now. Independent. They know what they want. They are go,go,go all the time now. We just signed Ryan up for football and Erynn up for Softball (teeball) this past week. We'll be rushing around from practices and one sport to another - that's only going to add to how quickly time goes by. I can't stand it.
Last Friday I had to take the boys in for their check ups.
Aidan is 9 years old. He is now 4 ft, 7 in tall. I'm sorry, what?! He's almost 5 ft tall!!! He's in the 85th percentile for his age. The doctor says he'll be well over 6 ft tall. I don't put much stock into all of that - he'll be what he is but with a Dad at 6'2" and a Mom at 5'8" the chances are pretty high that he's going to be tall. He is weighing in at 67.2lbs. That's 75th percentile for weight. No concerns, he looks great and all is well.
Ryan is 7 yrs old, 8 yrs in May. He is 4 ft, 3 in tall. He's in the 75th percentile for his height. I think he'll catch up to Aidan in no time lol. He weighs 56.6lbs but he looks like he is all skin and bones. You can see his ribs when he takes his shirt off. But the kicker is he eats like a pig. He is just always going! I don't know the percentile for his weight, the Dr never even said it. Again, he's doing great. He has an indentation right near his heart where his breastbone never formed correctly when he was born/forming - that was Ryan's biggest concern. He just wanted to make sure he'd be able to play football. The Dr gave him the green light and that was all Ryan needed to hear.
Erynn has her check up in April so we'll see where she falls. I just wish it wasn't going by so quickly.
Now for the fabulous things that have yet again come out of my kids mouths.
Ryan is cuddling / hugging me.
John: Hey! No hugging my wife!
Ryan: Back off!! That's my Mom!! She bornded me! (wth is bornded?!?! LOL) She's MY MOM! Back off Dad!!!
Erynn-isms
Daddy!! Shut that door!! You're letting all of those MOPS in the house!!!! (Mops = moths)
Mom. It's a good thing I was here to remember you because you forgot that we needed to go to the store.
Aidan: Mom, how did you not know about Beetlejuice? (Betelgeuse)
Me: Um - how do YOU know about Beetlejuice?? (I'm thinking he is talking about the movie with Michael Keaton that I know I for damn sure haven't let him watch!)
Aidan: We learned about it in school Mom!
Me: What?! What are you doing learning about Beetlejuice?!
Aidan: MOM! It's the head to Orion - you know, the constellation?? How do I know MORE than you and Daddy do??
Me: Oh. Well then. Well, Mommy and Daddy went to school a long time ago and scientists are still discovering new things every single day so there are things that they hadn't found yet. You will learn about things that we didn't learn.
Schooled by my 9 year old.
Then again - I'm still getting over the fact that they have just up and CHANGED MATH!!!! Don't even get me started on that one.

Kid-isms
It's been a while. I admit I am guilty of slacking on these. I'm missing some really good ones and I'm mad at myself because my kids have had me in stitches with some of the random things that have been coming out of their mouths lately! I love the thoughts that will just escape from their little minds! I've got two good ones this time around.
Aidan:
I want Ryan to be my kids Godfather so he can teach them to face the facts and take bullies off the school property and kick their butts so they stop being bullies. (yes, all one sentence and one breath. Oh my.)
Me:
But won't that make YOUR kids the bullies if they are beating those kids up?
Aidan:
Oh yeah. Ryan, you can't be the Godfather then.
Me:
Well, he could still be the Godfather, he just doesn't need to teach your kids to beat other kids up.
Aidan:
Good point Mom. You're back on Ryan.
Ryan:
Hey! There's that 8-ball thing!! (We were camping for Halloween and at a party) I'm gonna go and ask it my future. See if it knows. My dream is to be a cool dude and get a hot ride.
I love them. They keep me laughing!

Kid-isms
It's been a while since I posted any of these but I've been writing them down!
Ryan: So, there's this girl named Hope in my class and she's the Awesomest! If she stares at you it means she likes you. Today she was staring at me. That means she likes me.
Me: Blank stare.
Ryan: Mom. Why are you looking at me like that?
Me: Because I love you.
Ryan: And because I'm cute. Yeah, I'm cute.
Aidan: Mom. I can't WAIT for the spelling test. I am going to ROCK that spelling test like nobody's business. I am going to OWN it. I can't wait! I wish the test was today. I wish we had school!!!
We took the kids to Outback for dinner with Mike and Brandon. Erynn has tic tac toe on her kids menu and Ryan finds out.
Ryan: Wait, we have tic tac toe??
Brandon: Yes, and Erynn already won.
Ryan: Well played, Erynn. Well played.
Erynn: Last night when I was in my bed and Papa woke me up this morning I stretched out in my bed and I was super long like SUPER LONG!!! How long am I anyway??
Ryan: Mom, did you go for a run today?????
Me: No, why?
Ryan: Because you look like you lost weight!!
Me: Thanks Ryan.
Ryan: Mom!! No! I really mean it!
Me: I know Ryan, that's why I said thank you.
Ryan: Oh. Okay. Because you look good.
This one might be the best one yet. Hold on to your hats.
Ryan was at Papa's house apparantly flipping through the Victoria's Secret bathing suit catalogue. It still comes to the house from when we were living there.
So, he's flipping through and he says Wow, these girls look just like my Mom!!
God love him. First, I'd knock an old lady over to look like the girls in the VS catalogue. Thanks buddy. Just sayin.
So then Papa says to him, what are you doing over there?
Ryan turns and says Just looking. A guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do Papa.
So, Papa tells me the story and I ask Ryan. He just starts giggling. When he says the a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do part I say well, I'm a girl, what does that mean? He says a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do Mom!!
Dear Lord help me with this child! I don't know where he learned that or heard it but I am in TROUBLE with this one!!!

It's Monday........and I'm okay with that!
Who ever says that? I know, I know, you're wondering if my crack pipe is still warm. Or even hot for that matter. I assure you, that was not one of the activities I picked up over the weekend. But my weekend was just SO good that I didn't even mind waking up to a Monday morning. Le sigh.
Friday morning I had parent/teacher conferences for Erynn. Truthfully I expected this meeting to go off without a hitch. Erynn is not a worry. Not bragging, honestly, just stating a fact. She really is easy.....come on, how many times have I been told she is just like her Mother? HA! But seriously, I shit you not, Mrs. Cicci told me she wishes she had a class FULL of Erynn's. Oh my. I thought my heart was going to burst right out of my chest. What Mom wouldn't want to hear that about her child?! Mrs. C said that Erynn is a joy to be around. Very easy going, always happy, always making sure that everyone is included. She said if there is a child who is shy or on the "outskirts" of the group Erynn is the one who gets up, goes over and brings them in to play with everyone. She is very motherly. Yup, that's definitely my little girl. I am so proud of her!! Mrs. C asked what I was thinking about Kindergarten next year and I told her I've already enrolled Erynn in the full day class. She said that's great and that Erynn is more than ready for it - that she thinks she'll do wonderfully. YAY!
Next stop was Aidan's school. I volunteered to help his teacher, Mrs. Verlicco, sort books. Oh my - I didn't know what I was in for lol. She had a table stacked high plus a 3-shelf bookcase. All of them were labeled with the numeric system but needed to be sorted and filed accordingly. Mrs. V said she didn't expect me to do them all. Does she realize who she had in her room? ;-) I had expected to be there for 3 hours so I knew I was most likely going to get it done. First - that woman is a saint. I have NO idea how she does what she does day in and day out. Some of the kids in her class are TOUGH!! They are fresh, they don't listen, they interrupt, they are rude. OMG. I was shocked. When I arrived the music teacher was in there and he had about 10 min left. He said he was disappointed that he didn't get to show the kids what was in the box of instruments he'd brought because some of them couldn't pay attention and stop talking so he didn't get to go through everything he intended on doing. Awful. It didn't get much better. I now know why Mrs. V said there were definitely some kids she didn't see Aidan having playdates with and thank you Mrs V for steering me clear of them. Aidan was very excited to have me in his classroom so his attention did wander a bit but I would sternly put him right back on course. I wasn't there to distract, I was there to help out his teacher. Lunch time rolled around and I was still sorting. Aidan wanted me to eat with him, Mrs. V said it was up to me. I had a raging migraine so the last thing I was up for was heading into a cafeteria with screaming children but how could I say no? Interesting little tidbit.....parents are not allowed to eat in the lunchroom with children. What?! I was pulled out of the lunchroom by the Asst Principal. Oh my. She brought me in to see the Principal who informed me that they have a rule - parents aren't allowed. Um, okay. She said 1. they don't have enough seats.......2. they don't want the student to feel singled out by having their parent eat with them.......3. they don't want the other children whose parents can't eat lunch with them to feel badly. Now I can get down with the reasoning behind #3 but the other two? Not so much. However, it's not my school and I have respect so I said I completely understand I sat out in the lobby for 30 min until I could return to Mrs. V's room. I let her know that parents weren't allowed in the lunchroom and she apologized profusely - I told her it wasn't her fault, I only wanted her to know in case this happened in the future. I wasn't mad at all. Aidan was really upset, he got all teary eyed and asked why I hadn't returned to the lunchroom as the Asst Principal had told him she was only "borrowing" me for a minute. I explained briefly and told him we'd talk more later. I stayed for another 30 min, finished up all of the sorting and went on my merry way. My time in 2nd grade was done for the day. :)
After we got home Ryan's two friends came over. Twin 7 yr old boys named Sean and Nathan. They were coming for a sleepover - our first friend from school sleepover! They are right in the middle of Aidan and Ryan's ages. We went bowling with them and then took all 5 kids out to dinner. Oh if you could have SEEN the looks we got. Some people were even bold enough to ask if all 5 kids were ours. Ballsy people, really ballsy. I was tempted to say yes but I can not tell a lie. I was just floored that people would even ask!! The kids were all amazing and we had a really great time. Everyone came back to the house, we all got in our pj's and we settled the boys in their beds to watch a movie. Um, at 10:30p they were still awake! Well, 3 out of 4........and it was AIDAN who had passed out lol. The youngers were still awake. They finally fell asleep but they were wide awake and ready to go at 7a. We had pancakes and bacon for breakfast and Andrea picked the twins up at 10a because they had a birthday party to go to.
Not much more after that. I got a TON of kid time in, John helped me out with the laundry, he and I got in cuddle/couch time AND I managed to finish up book 4, start and finish book 5 and start book 6 in a series I'm reading. That's a kick ass weekend if I do say so myself........hence the total satisfaction I'm having this fine Monday morning!!!

Behind you say? Me? No!!!!
You should really be used to it by now! Honestly people, do you not know me at all?? If you do you can totally hear my tone here.........
I can't count how many times I've woken up and said I really need to update my blog today, holy crap I am so far behind! Good intentions and all of that......so my question now.......do I lay it all out here in one ridiculously huge post or break it all up? Or do I just try to keep it short and sweet? Let's go for the short and sweet, shall we?
Let's see. Erynn turned 5 and Aidan turned 8. We had a joint birthday party for all of our friends and then we had family parties for them on their actual birthday as this has become our new tradition. MUCH easier than having the joint family/friend party because it just gets out of control with the amount of people. The friend party was pretty damn cool if I do say myself. The theme was Winter Wonderland. I did a candy bar, a hot chocolate bar, it was all blue and white - the kids loved it!

Family night was easy and low key. Aside from Mike and Brandon it is, of course, John's family because who else do I have from my side?
Christmas Eve was wonderful. We continued with another tradition......can you tell I love me some traditions? Since I don't really have much family....aside from my brother, of course, we are very close but even things there are shifting because now he has in laws and such that he has to consider......traditions are huge with me. I want to build them with my kids in the hopes that they will continue them. I want them to look back on their childhood like I look back on mine and remember good / fun times. Anyway, every Christmas Eve we go out with Stephanie, Butch and their kids for Chinese food and then we usually go to see Christmas lights in some neighborhood somewhere. Love love love this!! This year it was all new. Newly opened Chinese food restaurant (not good, do not reco to anyone) and new neighborhood for lights. This place was AMAZING. This one house completely goes all out - I've never seen anything like it. Of course this year was the last year for this house but it was amazing and I'm so glad we got to see it. Too bad they are all done.
Christmas was a good time. VERY laid back. It was just us all day and then Dad came over for dinner. Mike and Brandon came over for dessert. Christmas morning was completely overboard. We say EVERY year it's not going to be. Then when we put the presents out it's like what in the hell happened?!?! This year I had everything wrapped a full WEEK ahead of time - I had bragging rights man! I was very impressed with myself because you KNOW John doesn't help with the wrapping. I even posted on Facebook. Then I get a little response back from Dad saying what about the stuff at my house little girl?! Um, what the what?!?! Whatchoo talkin' bout Willis?? Yeah. Dad had apparently done a wee bit of shopping on his own. Mother of pearl it looked like every toy store on the Northeast coast had thrown up in our family room by the time we were done putting out the presents. So much for scaling back this year. But, of course the kids loved it and what can I do about what he buys. After Chrismas I did make them go through their existing toys and they were SO good. They donated almost everything they already had to kids without toys to make room for the new ones. Love my babies. It took me 2 days to set the house right again and get everything back the way it should be but I had the time because I was on vacation so it all worked out.
NYE was good. We had our traditional NYE party - this is our 8th year! I was floored when John told me that, I had no idea we'd thrown this party for so many years. I have to say I love the tradition of it (again with tradition lol). I love the friends, old and new, that come. I love that the kids stay up and run around together. It's a great time. It's not about my birthday but it's still a fantastic night. I did make it potluck this year after MUCH hounding from my brother and Susan. They finally convinced me that I shouldn't be prepping food and things all day long because it IS my birthday and they are right. So this year I made that change. I think I'll continue that because it worked out well and nobody seemed to mind. We did have a bunch of people end up not making it. The flu / sickies hit HARD this year. People are still getting sick. Susan got my birthday cake like she does every year. LOVE that girl. John dropped the ball on the rest........like he does every year. I sat down and had yet another talk with him about the way it makes me feel. Not sure if it did any good, I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens next year. Maybe this should be a separate post? I might do that because I need to get the vent out somewhere.
One of my favorite pictures from NYE is a group shot of me, two friends and all of our kids. Me, Lisa and Stephanie all grew up together. We've known each other since the summer between 6th and 7th grade....so I was 11 years old. I consider them family. Lisa's Mom posted a picture of the three of us on Facebook a week or two before so we wanted to get a picture of us now. Quite the difference but I love that we're still friends and that our kids are growing up together as friends. Best feeling ever.
Before...........circa late 80's or early 90's. (laugh away people, laugh away)
Aaaaaaaaaaand now. Quite the difference, huh??

One liners from my lil ones
Still tracking these but I need to get better at it because I'm missing some good ones! The problem is they'll just toss something out when I'm driving and well, that's not a great time to be whipping out my cell phone and texting myself a quick note so I don't forget.
Aidan:
I love that cops can just stop when they are done chasing a bad guy and go have a donut at Dunkin Donuts for less than regular people pay for a donut. I love that about cops!!
Ryan:
Every day when I get home from school I take a nap.
Me: That's because you are tired because you stay up too late after you're supposed to go to bed.
Ryan: No, it's because I do all the tired things at school!
Erynn:
I am SO PUFFED!!!
Me: What? I'm sorry, I have no idea what that means.
Erynn: Yes you DO Mom. It's when you are really really full and you can't eat anymore.
Me: Ohhhhhh, you mean you are stuffed!
Erynn: Oh. Yeah. I'm so stuffed.

Day 5 - Aidan John
My first born.
My oldest.
The first one to make me feel what it felt like to have my heart walking around outside of my body.
My sensitive little man. He's 7 years old and so much older than his years. I worry about him all the time because he's so sensitive. I worry about his fragile little self esteem. I hope he has enough friends, I hope he is happy. He is such a joy and he is such a kind, BIG hearted little boy. He's inquisitive, thoughtful, loving. He's always looking out for his brother and his sister. He always wants to include them. (Actually, they all do this - they are VERY thoughtful when it comes to one another) He still wants to give his Mother a hug and a kiss in front of his classmates at school - he's not too old for that. He is SUCH a love. I hope he always will be.
He was the one we tried for the longest. After over two years of infertility our prayers were answered and he is SUCH a blessing. I am thankful that we were able to finally have children. I am thankful that he was our first. I am thankful for my Aidan John.

I couldn't make this up if I tried
I've been trying to keep track of the random funny things that my kids say.
I find myself whipping my phone out to type it into my "notes" app so I don't forget because, honestly, some of this cracks me UP! It might just be because they are my kids. I am hearing them say it. I hear the tone, the way, etc. I know them. You may not find it as funny as I do. But I'm blogging anyway because I'm sure, one day, I'll look back on these and find them even more funny than I do now.
Sunday we're on a road trip.
I had asked John two months ago to fix my roof racks because they make a REALLY loud whistling noise when you're driving on the highway. Super annoying - I can't stand it.
Erynn says Mom, what is that NOISE???
I said It's the roof racks.
She says It's really annoying and LOUD!
I said Yeah, it kind of is, isn't it?? (all the while looking pointedly at John who is just smirking out the side of his face)
Aidan says It sounds like pigeons Mom!
Erynn says YEAH! It sounds just like MIDGETS!!!!!
WTH???
Ryan comes into the living room.
Guess what I'm going to be when I grow up Mom!
What are you going to be when you grow up Ryan?
I'm going to be a rock star singer. Because I have an awesome voice! And you can come. Anytime you want. Just give me a call at my house. It will start at ten o'clock.
Okay buddy, I'll be there. LOL.
Ryan says Mom? Is breeze a different word for wind?
Yes Ryan.
Oh. Well, that sure is some good breezin' going on out there.
The other night I was watching Big Ang. I know, I know, but there was nothing on TV or on my DVR.
Her friend took her to a consignment shop to get rid of some of her clothes and things because she had WAY too much crap in her house. Erynn came down and was watching that segment with me.
Erynn says She is definitely NOT a nice girl!! (referring to Ang's friend)
I said Why not?
Because she won't let her friend buy any of those clothes!! (Ang was looking at other items in the shop that she wanted to buy and her friend said no, you came here to get rid of stuff, not buy MORE!)
I swear - the things that comes out of these kids mouths is just priceless. I love every minute of it!

Once again...
I'm ridiculously far behind. Never when coming up with my "byline" did I think how accurate is really was going to be. "Random" musings indeed. I just can't seem to get here often enough to stay updated. I'll have to do quite a few posts to become current. Otherwise this will be the longest blog post in the history of blog posts. Not having that.
Let's start with back to school. Yes, that happened. The summer has come and gone in the blink of an eye. All three kids have been back to school for over four weeks now! The boys started before Labor Day.
Ryan is in First Grade with Mrs. Henderson.................
Erynn is in her second year of Pre-K with Mrs. Cicci...............

Sidenote. WHEN did it become acceptable to start back to school before Labor Day weekend? Before last year I'd never heard of such a thing. Growing up we never started bts before LD. Ever. It just wasn't done. Last year Aidan started before LD and I was floored. Fast forward to this year and it's apparantly the norm. But I digress.
So, Aidan is now in Second Grade with Mrs. Verlicco...........
Ryan is in First Grade with Mrs. Henderson.................
Erynn is in her second year of Pre-K with Mrs. Cicci...............
So, four weeks into school and all three kids are loving it. The boys have homework every night. Some days it's a chore but, for the most part, they are really good about it and learning is fun. Let's hope that continues!

Birthdays
I'm going to have to do some block catching up here. Just when I think I can get back into blogging something happens and a month goes by. Where does the time go?! Speaking of.......we had two (well, three but mine will be seperate) birthdays go by last month!
Aidan. My baby. My first born. I don't understand how it has been SEVEN years since I brought my first child home. SEVEN. Some days it feels like yesterday, other days it feels like a life time has gone by.
How did this happen?!

How did this happen?!

How did we get from there to here? Aidan is such a little man. He has a heart of gold, he is so sensitive. He is the most loving kid there is. So much so that my heart aches for him sometimes. He is just *so* sweet. I hope he will make it through the hurts that can come with childhood. Kids can be so mean and I worry for his sweet little sensitive self. He is the best big brother to his brother and sister. Always looking out for them, sharing, loving, hugging, playing with. He is just amazing.
Erynn Louise. My last baby. Four years already. I remember how much I loved her before she was born. How I got to tell my Mom before she died how I was going to have another baby. How Erynn helped me get through the death of my mother. I remember the day we found out that we were having a baby girl and how much the u/s picture looked like my Mom. It blew me away. We knew right then and there that her name would be Erynn Louise. Erynn is SUCH a girl. She loves pink, playing with dolls, doing her hair. But she loves her big brothers just as much. She plays with them, she looks up to them. She is a Diva. She is emotional. She loves just as hard as she does anything else. She is amazing.

Every Mom is biased. This is true. But for all of the hurts I have had in my life.......these three blessings that I have......I can't even put into words. I am blessed. I am lucky. I am loved. God has put me through some rough things. I grew up much faster than most everyone I know. But I would not change a single solitary thing because it has led me here.
Happy Birthday to two of my wonderful children. I love you to the moon and back.

Memory like a steel trap
Yep, that's my son. Aidan. I don't know how he remembers the things he does but Lordy, do they knock me for a loop sometimes.
Last night we ran to the store to pick up a few things for our last camping trip this season. We're driving home and Aidan starts waxing poetic about the benefits of milk. How all kinds, chocolate, white, strawberry are ALL good for you and they do good things for your body.
Then the questions begin.
Aidan: "Mom, how do cows make milk? What makes them make it?"
Ummmm, Mama has a headache and can't concentrate so I say "They are just built that way. Like how trees can make leaves and Moms can make babies."
Oh shit. Did I really just bring up the Mom and babies thing? Yes, I did. Why did I say that?!?! Aaaaand therein lies the error of my ways. Oh yes ladies and gentlemen, I walked right into this.
Aidan: "OH YEAH!!! So, Mom, what is that all about anyway?"
I say "Huh? What is what all about?"
Aidan: "When I was a baby, remember you put milk in your belly to feed me?"
"No, you were growing in my belly and didn't need food."
Aidan: "Well what about the milk you gave me from your belly?"
I play stupid and say "What milk from my belly? I gave you bottles"
LOL. Yeah, score one for me............or so I thought. In reality, NOT SO MUCH.
He says, "Well, what about those bottles with the thin tube like straw thing that you would put on your boobs and get milk from?? What was THAT all about???"
I thought John was going to drive the truck off the road he was laughing so hard.
I honestly can't even remember what I answered him with. I was just thinking in my head WHERE did this come from and how did I do this to myself??? How does he remember this stuff? I guess it's from Erynn. I nursed / pumped with her for 8 months. He was 3 yrs old......I suppose he could remember? Either way, I'm impressed. And stunned. ;-)

Children - ism's
I put these on Facebook over the weekend but I have to post here so they are saved. Forever and ever. I'll need something to come back to when my children get married and I'm obligated to provide the embarassing stories!
Saturday I was getting ready with the kids for a playdate. I'm in the master bath and the three kids are in my bedroom. (Truth be told they were sitting on my bed because I had put them on time out) I overhear the following conversation:
Aidan - "Uh oh, Mommy's hair is stuck to my shirt!"
Erynn - "That's MY hair Aidan!"
Aidann - "Nope, it's Mommy's hair, see how long it is??"
Ryan - "Mommy has long hair because she is a princess. She is a beautiful princess!"
Aidan - "No, Mommy is the QUEEN Ryan. Mommy is the beautiful Queen of this house!"
Ryan - "Ohhhhh."
I was quietly cracking up and thinking to myself, "Yup, that's right Aidan. Smart boy!"
Sunday we went to a Baptism. We were sitting in the church and my children aren't used to church at all. Yes, I am a bad Catholic and I fully recognize this. We were in the pew and the Deacon was giving his talk after the Gospel was read. Aidan wanted to know if God was almost done talking. I said "Honey, that isn't God, that is the priest." Aidan says, "Is he the one in charge of God's house??" *sob*
I let them look at the prayer books to keep entertained and Aidan was telling Ryan that if he wasn't careful and tore God's books that God would be very mad at him. Ahhhh, love the way their minds work.
After the church we drove to the reception. The Black Eyed Peas song "Just Can't Get Enough" came on the radio. All three kids start bobbing their heads and rocking out. I focus in on Ryan because he is singing along with the song. Or so I thought. Ryan was actually singing "I just can't get it up" OMG. I started laughing hysterically. I told Ryan they were actually saying I just can't get enough! He said "ohhhhh! Thank you Mommy! I thought they were saying I just can't get it up!" I said nope and then told him 10 years from now he would understand why Mommy was laughing like a crazy person at what he was singing.
I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried.

Why slavery ended from a 6 yr old perspective....
A: "Mom, who was that guy that ended slavery?"
M: (to myself.......how the HELL do you even know about this at 6 yrs old kid?!) "Ahh, that was Abe Lincoln Aidan."
A: "Do you know WHY he ended slavery Mom?"
M: "Why don't you tell me."
A: "Because Mom! Slavery was mean and rude and fresh!! So Abe Lincoln made it go away because he is a good guy."
Well said Aidan, well said.

Where do they come up with these things??
Aidan. God love him.
Apparently my son is moonlighting as a masseuse. We just found out.
He takes my car at night, after I go to bed, and comes home before I wake up.
He makes sixty-hundred dollars a night. His boss is mean and doesn't even leave him one of it. But, he just got a new boss and this boss DOES leave him one of it so he is liking it now.
WHERE does he come up with this stuff? I have no idea, but I hope it keeps coming because he sure does make us laugh!!!!

Funny things from the mouth of my kid
Every kid has those moments where they say something that just cracks you up. I'm going to try and remember to blog about the funnies from my kids because I think it will be hysterical to look back on these one day.
So it's Saturday morning. I'm lying in bed (I just may have had aslight horrible hangover from Friday night) and the kids are running around the master bedroom. They are waiting to get in the shower.
While they wait they decide they want to play hide and seek. This alone is funny because listening to a 6, 5 and 3 year old come up with rules and count is pretty amusing.
There are very few spots you can hide in when you limit hide and seek to one room. Which they did. Yet every time they found one another hiding on the far side of the bed you would think it was the first time, every time. The gasps of surprise and shrieks of hysterical laughter continued on, every time they found each other. In the same spot. Too much.
Anyway, it's Aidan's turn to count. Erynn and Ryan run off to hide. They decide they are going to hide in my closet. Aidan counts and he comes out. Runs right to the far side of the bed, you know, the predetermined hiding spot in this particular game. Imagine his surprise when they are NOT there this time. He turns to me and says "where are they???" I tell him he needs to go look. He runs from the room and heads down the hall to their bedrooms.
10 seconds or so goes by.
Then, I hear a voice. "Aidan!..........AIDAN!!!........We're IN THE CLOSET Aidan!"
I say "It's hide and seek Ryan, you aren't supposed to tell him where you are."
2 seconds of silence, then, "OH!"
Silence for 10 more seconds.
"Okay Mom, I won't tell him!"
LOVE IT!

The end of an era.
Alright, alright, "an era" may be a bit dramatic.
But we did reach the end of the school year. The FIRST school year. Technically Ryan's last day of school was a week ago. Aidan's last day was yesterday.
And he missed it.
I'm so sad. Thankfully, he isn't super upset. But it's because I think he is too sick to care. He woke up yesterday morning with a temp of 103. He's been sick for the past two days. My poor bub. Ryan is sick too. He had a fever. Woke up at 3:30am yesterday (yay for 4 hours of sleep for Mommy because I certainly didn't get back to bed!) with a fever of 103.5 and a very bad headache. He never got sick, sick. But Aidan did. He threw up three times last night and again this morning. I hope he is all better soon.
I can't believe the whole year has gone by already. It seems like they just started. I can't believe I'll have a preschooler, a kindergartner and a first grader in just three short months! How do I slow things down? Has anyone found the pause button? What about rewind?
We'll spend the next three months camping, taking day trips to the beach, cooking out and seeing lots of friends. I love the summertime!!!!
I'll try to be better about sharing pictures of all of our adventures over the summer!

For my "babies"
Yes, I know they aren't "babies" anymore but I'm a Mom and doesn't every mother think her children will always be her babies? Is it just me? I think not.
Another little ditty from the internet. So cute, so true, I'm hijacking and putting here. (although I'm changing the formatting a bit. They have some of the end words in caps and I just didn't get it.)
I Love You
I am your parent, you are my child,
I am your quiet place, you are my wild.
I am your calm face, you are my giggle,
I am your wait, you are my wiggle.
I am your dinner, you are my chocolate cake,
I am your bedtime, you are my wide awake.
I am your lullaby, you are my peek a boo,
I am your goodnight kiss, you are my I love you.
So. Sweet. Totally 100% on the money. It might even have brought tears to my eyes. When did I turn into such a sentimental schmuck anyway?
